PRAIRIE ROSE REGIONAL DIVISION NO. 8

SCHOLARSHIP HANDBOOK

2003-2004

Welcome to the 2003-2004 edition of the PRRD Scholarship Handbook. Thank you to Mr. Sheldon Wihnan, a Counsellor at the Eagle Butte High School, for annually updating this handbook and allowing us to adapt it for the Division. There have been some minor changes as there are every year. New scholarships are created while other scholarships end. Keep in mind there is a lot of money out there and by no means does this handbook contain all the scholarship/awards available to students. It takes hard work and time to "hunt down" other scholarships. As well, don't feel that because your marks are not high you will not qualify. There are awards available for students entering a particular field of study, financial need, etc. The following are some web sites that you may find useful in finding those other scholarships:

General Information

DeVry applicants for admission are automatically considered for scholarships. There is no additional application necessary.

HOW TO APPLY:

Graduating high school students who've already applied to attend any Canadian DeVry Institute and achieved qualifying Computerized Placement Test (CPT) scores are automatically eligible to receive scholarships to attend one of the school's full-time degree or diploma programs.

Dean's Scholarships

Criteria: In determining who will receive Dean's scholarships, valued at $1000.00 per term, DeVry will consider applicants' CPT scores. Because Dean's scholarships are awarded in February and March, and because scholarship funds are disbursed only until all current-year funds are awarded, applicants are advised to submit their application and write their test as early as possible.

Deadlines: DeVry applicants have two opportunities to compete for DeVry's scholarships, depending on when they write their test. Applicants who have written their test by:

* January 5, are eligible for scholarships to be awarded in February.

* February 23, are eligible for scholarships to be awarded in March.

Presidential Scholarships (DeVry)

Criteria: This year, two full-time scholarships at each of the Canadian DeVry Institutes will be granted. Each Presidential scholarship, valued up to nearly $32,000 (less any tuition-only restricted grants from other sources), covers the application fee and tuition for any of DeVry's full-time degree or diploma programs. Graduating high school students who submit an application for admission to DeVry (including those applicants who have already won Dean's scholarships), and who achieve qualifying CPT scores, will be considered for full-tuition awards. Presidential scholarships are granted based on a variety of criteria, including scholastic achievement, community service, extracurricular activity and an essay.

Deadline: To qualify for this scholarship, an applicant must have written the CPT test on or before March 15.

DeVry will notify presidential scholarship finalists by approximately April 1. At this time, they will receive details about submitting additional qualifying materials, including an essay. Winners and alternates will be selected by April 30.
