Web Page Background images

The Home Page Construction Kit comes with some server loaded backgrounds that you may choose from if you wish to use a background image for your pages rather than a background colour.  One school of Web Page design says you should never use background images.  The rationale is that background images can make the text harder to read and can also make the Web page take longer to load.  On the other hand, many people believe that background images  can enhance a page.
The default method for displaying a background image is to tile that image so all you need is a very small graphic file and the image will be tiled across your entire page.
So, if you select one of the images available from the pop-up selection list and leave the selection at the default, your graphic image will cover your entire page.

You can get pretty creative however, if you use a combination of options and upload your own graphic files.
See below for instructions on uploading your own graphic file.
When you have your own background image loaded you can choose not to tile your graphic and position it on your screen and have the image either scroll with the user or stay fixed on the screen.

By using different options you can see the different possibilities

The selection of background images available from the pop-up selection list on the Home Page Construction Kit web page are all taken from the 'allfreebackgrounds.com' web site.    Selecting on if these backgrounds from the list will replace your colour attribute for your backgrounds.

Don't see a Background You Like?
If you don't see a background image you like, you can always upload your own to your Home Page folder (or a folder within there) and use it.
You may wish to select one of the many other backgrounds available from

To use your own background, open your Home Page (My Web Site) folder and choose File -> Import > Import Files and Folders to bring up the Open File dialog box on your computer.  Locate and select the file that you have stored on your computer and want to use as your background tiled image.  This will upload the file to your Home Page (My Web Site) folder.
You can now open your Home Page Construction Kit document and click on the Colour Scheme/Button Bar tab to locate the "Background Image File Name:" field.
This is a pop-up list that will allow you to also enter text.  To tell the Home Page Construction Kit template that you want to use your own file rather than one from the list, precede the name of your file with an "*".
04012003_41446_3.png
This instructs the Home Page Construction Kit to look for a file called MyPink.jpg located at the first (root) level of your Home Page Folder.

If your file is inside a folder called Images inside your Home Page folder then the entry would be 04012003_41428_2.png and this will instruct the Home Page construction kit to look inside the Images folder for the file named MyPink.jpg
